I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (San Diego, CA) in Nov 2018
Interview
I met a few recruiters at a job/career fair at my university and got along really well with them. They sent me an email after a brief 20-minute phone interview and then i had another phone interview for about an hour. A week later, I had an in-person interview, which went really well and would result in a market research study where I'd have to call 5 individuals and ask them a few questions from a packet that I had received. After those phone calls, I was to come up with a presentation of my findings/ conversations and present it to a panel of 5 people which would ultimately decide my future with the company. (I was told by multiple peers that they had a similar situation but sensed there was a bit of a pyramid scheme going on to get more phone numbers. You have to build your own clientele and "market yourself" but it seemed more of a sales position than a investment banking internship).
It was good, simple, and they provided a lot of information on what the position would look like. They explained the reasoning for commission-based pay, and how they help support new interns with that.
I had an interview with northwestern mutual but im seeing a lot of people say its just a pyramid scheme to cold call people in my network. is this true?
