I applied online. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Grand Haven, MI) in Jun 2022
Interview
They were friendly, almost too much so. They asked me a lot of very personal questions. Things like "how is your relationship with your mother" and "what does your dad do for work". It seemed as though they were scouting me to see if they could sell products to my family. This whole company feels like a MLM scam. The title "financial advisor" is a misnomer. The position would more aptly be titled "insurance salesman." They suggest that you compile a list of 100 people that you are close to and try to sell financial products to them. Alienating your friends and family by selling them insurance products that they probably don't need is a slimy way to make a living. They promise you big rewards, saying that you can make $200,000 in your second year to suck you in. If you want to be a salesman, go for it. If you want to do respectable financial management, go elsewhere.

There were four or five interviews, if you count the meeting with my future mentor. There were also a few personality assessments. Lots of paperwork. The finance industry is tightly regulated.
The first interview was easygoing and went fairly well. We talked a little on myself and what northwestern was all about. Because they wanted to see how I could fit in to their team and what I would bring.

The process was smooth and straight forward. A lot of behavioral based questions, but relaxed and low stress. First phase is a phone screening followed by a teams or in person meeting.
