I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual in May 2014
Interview
Applied at my college job fair. Received a call a week later to set up an interview. 3 step interview process. First interview; typical interview, face to face with your recruiter at the Northwestern Mutual office where they get to know you and explain the job responsibilities in brief. The next interview you present a slideshow in front of all of the other interns who applied for the position at the office, and then the recruiter and your future boss bring you in their office and interview you again and talk about highlights of your presentation. If they decide to move forward with you, you are given a sheet where you are supposed to call 15 people and survey them about financial services. 5 people you know,5 people you sort of know, and 5 people you gained off of references that you don't know at all. Once you have completed that by the deadline they give you, you do a phone interview and are asked questions based off of the surveys you conducted. Once hired, you have about a month to study for your Life/Health/Disability Insurance state certification that they paid for. If you are unable to pass this, you ultimately won't have the job, but if you do, your internship begins.

Question 1
Where do you see yourself in the short term (1-3 years), mid term (5-10 years) and long term (10+ years)?
There were four or five interviews, if you count the meeting with my future mentor. There were also a few personality assessments. Lots of paperwork. The finance industry is tightly regulated.
The first interview was easygoing and went fairly well. We talked a little on myself and what northwestern was all about. Because they wanted to see how I could fit in to their team and what I would bring.
I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Greenville, SC)
Interview
The process was smooth and straight forward. A lot of behavioral based questions, but relaxed and low stress. First phase is a phone screening followed by a teams or in person meeting.
