I was scheduled to meet two people on a video call, which they called "a virtual interview with the Hiring Manager" after I passed the recruiter screening. I was so excited that I spent almost a week on researching for the company culture/products to prepare for the interview.
Unfortunately, one of the interviewers, whose title obviously seemed to be the most involved in the hiring decision (let’s call this person a Hiring Manager) didn’t show up for that interview. Another interviewer who I spoke with was very nice, but didn’t sound like s/he was used to interview for a job applicant. I wished my interview had been rescheduled as soon as they found out that the Hiring Manager couldn’t make it if they called it an "interview with the Hiring Manager". Maybe they weren't just interested enough in me. I felt less valued because of his/her absence.
Without meeting the so-called "Hiring Manager", I got a rejection email. The only good part about it was that the whole process was very quick. I have read all the bad experiences that the other candidates went thru with this company on Glassdoor, so at least it didn’t happen to me. It would have hurt me more if it went to the further step - especially I wouldn’t want to go through the unpaid take home assignment and the long wait time afterwards anyway that is often mentioned here, so I am kind of glad that I got declined in the earlier stage.
Still I really wanted this job, so it was very disappointing. Apparently they don’t care about how a candidate takes a job interview seriously. I understood why this company has this many negative reviews on the interview.
