      UX Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ovia Health (Boston, MA) in Oct 2016

      Interview

I applied online from the website. Shortly thereafter, the Director of Operations reached out to me to schedule a preliminary 30-minute phone screen. The phone screen went well--the Director of Ops was exceedingly kind and easy to talk to. She immediately scheduled a second call for me at the end of our conversation. That's when things went downhill. The company was still very small at this point, so my second call was with a VP or Manager, I can't remember which, who might have been the direct manager for the position, but also might not have been. It was all somewhat confusing. The only available times I had were during lunch hours, since I was sneaking outside to take the calls while at my current position, which I feel is a pretty normal thing to do, and certainly should be an expectation whenever a preliminary phone screen is being scheduled at noon during the week. Now, for this next call, the Director of Ops had made it sound like a second casual, very preliminary phone call. Once I began speaking to the second interviewer though, she became very frustrated with me for not having my laptop or phone available to view their website or mobile app while we talked. No one had mentioned that these were things I might need for a preliminary call and because I was on my lunch break, I didn't have my laptop with me. I also couldn't use my phone to view their app...because I was using it for our phone conversation. The interviewer immediately rushed me off the phone and wished me luck on my job search. I wasn't surprised to receive an email a few hours later saying they were going to explore other candidates. I felt like the second interviewer was very rude and abrupt. She could have asked to reschedule with me or asked me actual questions about my background or experience, instead of, "What would you change about our website?"
