Interview
There was an HR phone prescreen. The next step involved a face to face interview with an HR admin who did not appear to have sales experience and yet came across as a little too confident they understood the selling process with lack of background experience and it was very obvious. The interview started about thirty minutes late. The person who was suppose to conduct the interview was a no show and the receptionist did not know where the individual was. I had always heard how professional Perry was in appearance and I was very shocked when I saw how some of the office professionals were dressed. The woman that I interviewed with in HR did not seem to be very professionally dressed and was slightly condescending. Because she was already running late, she was really rushing through the interview questions. As stated before, there was more writing than she was talking, listening , or making eye contact. She would cut me off when answering questions in order to rush and ask the next question. She was not very focused on getting answers. That is a huge faux paus when conducting face-to-face interviews. She was very nice, but lacked business acumen. I was contacted a couple of days later to continue the process and to schedule another interview. I decided to pass on the opportunity, which I generally do not do, but my gut told me to walk on this one for a reason. I was concerned about turn over and lack of leadership and promotion of sales people. The promotion occurring is of those with construction backgrounds in place of those with solid business backgrounds including professionally degreed sales people who actually have a Bachelor of Science or MBA in business management. Just to be clear, you don’t always have to have a college degree. Perry seems to pride themselves on not hiring or promoting those who do to the higher-level management positions. That speaks volumes about the organization for those who want more than a short stay as an outside sales rep.

Interview
Applied online. I received an email for a career fair. I went to career fair and met with an on-site recruiter. It was a brief meeting maybe 5 minutes and he decided to get me an in-person interview with a recruiter at the corporate office the following day. I met with the recruiter at the corporate office and afterwards she sent me an assessment to complete but also asked if I would be available the following week for a meeting with a division president. I met with the division president in the morning and received a call in the evening saying they would like to have on board.
Overall, everyone was very nice. The meeting with the recruiter at the corporate office and the division president lasted at least an hour each. They asked a lot of questions about my sales experience, how I handled objections, and how I handled phone calls.
