Went through several interviews: an initial phone interview with the hiring committee and in-person interviews with the hiring committee, manager and the team, and the division dean. Overall, the experience was good and pretty straightforward. I ended up being offered the job shortly after the last interview, but as soon as I attempted to negotiate salary (their offer was pretty low), the job offer was revoked. I had been grateful and completely professional in my response to the offer and was simply asking if the salary was negotiable. I was totally shocked at the revoking of the job offer, and considering that they had seemed so eager to hire me, it didn’t make any sense. Felt like I was being punished for trying negotiate salary. As a PSU alum myself, I felt very insulted by this experience and am very hesitant to apply for any other positions there again. Not to mention, their pay overall seems quite low compared to other colleges and universities in the region.
