I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Kalamazoo, MI) in Oct 2022
Interview
Online application submitted, quick replies asking for further assessments. After assessments were passed, was sent link to do one-way video interview the same day. I watched the video about the STAR method but the questions asked in the one-way video interview weren't really asked in a way that STAR method would apply. I know STAR method wants "specific examples" so I did my best to provide them without breaching privacy or confidentiality terms. I was previously a mortgage processor so I was doing my best to relate how those skills are very similar to claims.
I have high functioning autism and rely heavily on facial expressions, body language, tone and overall interest level of the interviewer in standard interviews to help me pivot another direction if what I'm saying isn't resonating with the interviewer. Using a one-way platform where I have zero clue or indications I need to change up my communication method until it's already too late seems extremely biased. So I guess Progressive is not looking for people who adapt to the conversation & customer, they are really looking for people who speak monotone & use examples that follow the "method". From a lot of the complaints in these feedback sections on both Indeed & Glassdoor, it would seem the people who *do pass this strange one-way interview went on to be incredibly unhappy in their roles.
As a Mortgage processor I already have the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while continuously adding to the case load & keeping my files organized. I was truly excited to make it through so many "stages" of the process but for me the in-person or two way video interview is crucial to showing my skills & abilities.
You have devised a process that discriminates against folks like me simply because I didn't have any feedback (visual, auditory, etc) until it was too late.
Good luck hiring people who can't handle the work load. It takes a special type and you are turning those of us who do it well away before we've had a chance to speak with a human.
Ciao!
