First received a call from the recruiter in early July 2018 and we did a quick phone screening. Set me up with a phone call with the hiring manager a few days later. Phone interview went well, he wanted to set up an in person interview, due to conflicting schedules we could not get in for an interview until August 23rd, 2018. My schedule freed up the week of 8/17/18 and I asked if we could move it up to that week, the recruiter said yes and confirmed my interview for 8/16/18. On 8/15/18 I contacted the recruiter to confirm my interview for the next day. I arrived at the Somerset Facility on the 16th, only to find out the manager was not there. I contacted the recruiter urgently only to be told that he wasn't in and no one was on site that could interview me. I was then told he wanted to do a phone interview instead (which is odd, I never heard of a phone interview over an in person interview). I said ok I'll talk to him then, the hiring manager never called me, so I tried to contact the recruiter again and left her a message. I get an email from her an hour later telling me that she was busy in meetings and would call me back. I get a call from the recruiter apologizing on her behalf and on the hiring managers behalf that something "last minute" came up and he couldn't be in and that he lost track of time to call me. She apologized on behalf of him again and asked if I could reschedule the interview. I said I would if the hiring manager would personally reach out and apologize since he wasted my time and resources this morning without asking me to reschedule in advance. I essentially was told there was nothing they could do for me and that she would see if he would reach out.
I am BAFFLED with how this was handled, a recruiter has one job, to find potential candidates and get them scheduled for an interview. I could not believe that instead of calling me in the heat of the moment her choice of communication was email and that attending meetings was more important than handling a pissed of candidate because she dropped the ball in informing me in advance that the hiring manager couldn't make it in that day, or that the hiring manager couldn't do it himself as he had my contact information. If this is how RackSpace handles their candidates, I could only imagine being an actual employee must be worse. It seems like I dodged a bullet.
