I have 15 + years of professional sales experience, a strong customer service skills, and a proven high volume sales number from well known companies like Macy's, Huffman&Koos, Sleepys, Bobs Discount, and BoConcept, and anyone would expect that a potential applicant like me will have a good shot to get the job right away atleast I thought I did. First of they will start their interest with you via email then they'll proceed to schedule a phone interview to prequalify you to see if its a good match. The phone interview went amazing, the human resources rep was in fact ready to put me up on training right away because of my experience but I suggested to atleast get a 1 on 1 interview to meet up with their managers to get to know the company; because after all, even though I'm an applicant, I need to be convinced that I would want to work there. I thought the in-person interview was good and I was advised when and where the training would be. But there was one statement that did not sit well with me is when the manager had stressed out that the company likes it to keep it "traditional". I didn't paid too much attention about it and I was just ready to hear from them, when the training would start etc. Then a complete silence came along afterwards. I emailed and called to follow-up on my application and to ask about the training that was spoke about but the human rep sounded nervous and the tone had completely changed and just told me that the position was filled. Filled? I mean atleast they could given me a courtesy email or a call that the "training" is not happening anymore. After all, the company was acting too excited to pull me in, I personally was just confused and left it like that, then I said to the rep that "its ok". The rep changed back to his/her perky tone and said "I will absolutely let you know asap when there's an opening!"So I said to myself, Oh ok Raymour and Flanigan, no thank you.. So in conclusion, on a phone interview, by basing it on the tone of my voice, my impressive history of experience from other good companies, and my outstanding sales abilities, it's no question that a company like yours that thrive on sales number should not pass on a potential strong sales employee like me or atleast a smart company that is. But after they've seen me in person, all of that had changed. Was I overlydressed? Or maybe your view of a salesman's ability to build a rapport with customers and close a sale defines whether he wears a mascara on his eyes or not. Maybe my man heels was a bit too high for your traditional company or maybe I used a wrong tone of bronzer on my face. My advice to any new applicant for this company, if you're naturally straight like an uncooked pasta with a mediocre sales ability maybe you'll get a shot with a bit of their training. But if you're a person with a bit of a flare (gay or lesbian), regardless of your massive following of clientele, customer sales ability, good work ethic and most importantly your ability to close a sale, don't waste your time! But if you must apply and be a part of their "wonderful team" be ready to grow that beard and bring some ax or any macho paraphernalia with you (if you're gay) if necessary and for the ladies, if you're a bit on an aggressive side, you definitely have to cinch those waist with the tightest corset to hide your truth. I'm glad that things happened for a reason because it will be a nightmare for me to pretend to be someone else, just to keep my employment in their company. My expertise to qualify anyone was put into use, and for this situation, their behavior towards me gave me an idea to what type of culture they have in the company. But nothing was lost because another smarter, successful and a more diverse company did not passed to offer me a position and that's what makes a company on top! This is not a hate, a bash or being bitter but this is a truth what I went through, so if you can relate to this review save your money for your commute and go somewhere else that will see your true potential other than your physical traits.
