I submitted my application through Handshake. I received a technical challenge a couple days later, and was given one week to complete it. After submitting my results, I was told they wouldn't be moving forward with my application.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Decrypt a version of my resume that contained hidden code, write a server to verify checksums and digital signatures of UDP packets
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Red Balloon Security (New York, NY) in Nov 2019
Interview
I reached out to the company, indicating my interest in a software development position, by searching their careers page. I received a response from a "mystical job-granting robot" which sent me a 2-part coding challenge. I answered both parts of the coding challenge to the best of my abilities and received an email about 1 week later indicating that they would not be moving forward with my candidacy.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Part 1 consisted of a Python coding challenge which required one to scrub UDP packets and verify them with a cryptographic hash.
Part 2 consisted of a puzzle which was hidden within the resume that I had initially sent to Red Balloon.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Red Balloon Security
Interview
Two challenges were given. I solved both of them and also responded with changes to their review comments. The puzzles are interesting and challenging. However, their expectations are not clear. Even though I solved the puzzles (and I see that others have experienced the same), they are unwilling to move forward. It’s strange. Also their communication is odd, I was notified by some sort of automated system and that email went straight to spam. A little respect for the candidates, by more humanly notifying them, wouldn’t hurt them, after all significant time is spent by candidates on the puzzles
