      Customer Account Representative Interview

      Sep 13, 2011
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Sacramento, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Rent-A-Center (Sacramento, CA) in Sep 2011

      Interview

Applied online on Tuesday and received a call for an interview for the following Monday on Friday evening. The man that contacted me was nice and asked if I could come in and gave me detailed directions to the location of the store that the interview was going to take place. I arrived on time and met with the hiring manager. It seems that the location I applied to was not hiring, but a location a bit farther from me. He asked me pretty much everything the online application asked me. He also asked me a lot of situational questions. He was interviewing over 90 candidates for a new store that was opening, but there were only 4 actual positions available. He seemed really exhausted, but still was very nice and focused on the interview. He ended the interview explaining that I applied to an entry-level position and I was not entry-level. He suggested I appy to the AM position also to see what happened. He said that if I heard from him in the next week, I would be going to a second interview if not, then HR decided to go with other candidates. I really appreciated his honesty letting me know where I stood. I don't think I'll be hearing back, but it was a great experience all the same. Also, as for the culture, it was upbeat and friendly. There was only one person that came into the store while I was initially waiting and he was just making a payment. However, the lady at the counter was helpful and nice. The store was clean and looked well kept. The other employees in a different room with large windows were working, possibly making sales calls, but also seemed to be having a good time occasionally chit chattting with each other in between calls. Seemed like a great and positive work environment to be in, especially since is was later in the day (after 5 o'clock). My advice is to be positive and be yourself. These people want to know who you are and get to know your personality. Be honest and straightforward too, considering they do background checks and will find out if you lied on your application. Since this was a entry-level sales/customer service position, I interviewed in nice slacks and a button up shirt. If I was interviewing for a management position, I would have definitely stepped it up a bit since the interviewer was wearing a jacket and tie.

      Interview

The interview was unprofessional and was in the main lobby of the store. There were multiple interruptions from customers. Both the manager and possible assistant (no formal title mentioned) admitted the job responsibilities were not outlined correctly on the listing and ended the interview abruptly when pay for the position was mentioned by me.
