After a brief communication with a recruiter, I was informed that I will have an informal chat with a member of the team. Following a positive chat with the Team Lead, I was offered an opportunity to interview. During the chat with the Team Lead, we talked about all sort of things (just getting to know each other stage). The hiring process was also mentioned during the chat, which includes 3 phone screens and an in-person interview.
Unfortunately, I only made it to the first phone screen interview. The interview was difficult for me, specifically the case study portion. Personally, I know I did well explaining my potential and soft skills. It was the case study that threw me off. Frankly, I never had to experience a case study on a phone interview . But I had many experiences dealing with any case study in-person, which only shows that I do better in-person than on phones concerning case studies. Another thing to note is that I never had experience in gaming research. As previously mentioned by another reviewer, it is quite difficult to come up with an answer when you are not embedded in it. Lastly, my interviewer tend to speak fast. Pretty much the entire time during the interview, I had to request for him to speak slower so I can absorb the question better. In the end, I appreciate that Riot provide me an opportunity to receive feedback.
According to the team, their hiring process seemed to be working well for them. Although, I just wish that in the future, Riot will consider more ways to balance the competitive interview process. Not many people do well on phone interviews, particularly in handling a case study on the phone. If Riot is already considering introverts by providing a way for them to show off during the presentation portion of the interview process (in-person), then I think including case studies would only be fair to be included in only the in-person interview. Sometimes just because something works doesn't mean it can't be improved.
Overall, my interview experience with Riot is positive but difficult.
