      Product Designer Interview

      Dec 12, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Robinhood in Nov 2019

      Interview

There were quite a few hiccups in the process: 1. I was stood up not once, but twice for the hiring manager interview call. The first time it happened the recruiter emailed me to reschedule, and then the second time, I had to send an email, only to get a response the next day. I was finally able to meet with the hiring manager on the third attempt. 2. I was then moved to the second round(?) where they asked me to put together a deck of sample projects to share with the team. The interview got rescheduled yet again, but thankfully prior to the actual time. But when it came around to the video call, the chat started late and it was just a 1:1 with the director. The director wasn't aware of the fact that I had a deck to share and had not been filled in at all about my profile or resume. It was a bit jarring since at that point I wasn't even sure what kind of info or talk he was looking for. We ended up having to spend the first 15 minutes just giving each other our backgrounds and I had to rush through my presentation to get through at least two of my sample projects. He said he had been very recently hired so I empathize to a certain degree that the team had some catching up to do, but I wish their interview process was more structured so that I could actually have some guidance on what to expect and I can't help but feel as though I wasn't properly primed and this could have had an effect on how my candidacy was considered. 3. This is minor, but I had been in contact with two recruiters and the hiring manager throughout this process but I was sent an impersonal, automated greenhouse email about not proceeding with my candidacy. Considering how bumpy the interview process was, I was somewhat expecting a more personal update.
