Interview
What a waste of time.
Horrible interview process that is very telling toward their inner communication. I had to go through a 5 stage interview process that took over 2 months to conclude. The initial interview, a troubleshooting assignment, a coding assignment, an interview with the ceo, and another final interview with a director. They were saying I still might have to do another interview still, which is just outrageous. The coding assignment and the troubleshooting assignment take more than 7 hours each and are uncompensated. In the end they sent me a generic email saying they'll go forward with another candidate, which is fine, but then they explain how they have a "no feedback policy" which just accumulates to a massive waste of time. You're more of a contractor for this company and are expected to do a lot of marketing along with your designated role to try to lift this start-up off the ground.

Question 1
Describe something that people get wrong about you?
- Around 3-4 interviews. Mostly to gauge if there will be a cultural fit.
- 2 take-home assignments, which are good to see what kind of challenges we expect on the role
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at SerpApi in Feb 2025
Interview
They found me on a job board and reached out for an introductory call. Completed round 1 with a Customer Success Manager and after, a take home challenge. Completed round 2 with a Customer Success Director. Both had the same questions and while there were some technical issues on his part, I felt that the interview was ok. I was notified that I wasn’t selected to move forward but ironically received an offer from my top choice the same day. The overall process was ok but I noticed some things at round 1 that did not align with their job post. The post reads as if this is a salaried role and its not, you’d be a contractor. They also repeated that they were all about transparency/being open but in my rejection email they made a point to say that they could not offer any feedback. That doesn’t align with transparency to me. It also was apparent during the interview process that this role was not clearly defined. I’ve been on the other side of the interview process several times and its clear that SerpApi believes that the process is only about them interviewing you, not you also assessing if this is the right role for you. A good interview process makes it clear that its a mutual process.

Question 1
If things shifted in the future, would you rather focus on customer success or coding?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at SerpApi in May 2024
Interview
The interview process at this company consisted of 3 interviews and 2 challenges. It began with an interview with the US Director of Customer Success. Then, I had to complete two challenges - a customer success challenge where I had to respond to customer emails demonstrating an understanding of the SerpAPI documentation, and a coding challenge that required parsing Google search results using the programming language of my choice.
Next, I had an interview with the EU Customer Success Director, followed by a final interview with the CEO. Throughout this process, all the interviewers were very welcoming, easy to talk to, and made for a generally positive interview experience.
However, despite feeling that I performed well on the challenges and believed the company's culture seemed like a good fit, I did not receive an offer in the end. Surprisingly, I was not provided any feedback or explanation regarding the decision. In fact, I had even gone the extra mile by creating and submitting a tutorial video showcasing my abilities with the Google Images Search API.
The lack of any insights or rationale for not moving forward left a somewhat negative impression, especially considering the time and effort invested in completing the challenges and interview rounds successfully. While the interview experience itself was favorable, not receiving constructive feedback felt like a missed opportunity for professional growth on my part.
