I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Shield AI (San Diego, CA) in Oct 2018
Interview
I had an initial phone call with Head of Talent to discuss my experience and the role and the exciting things Shield is doing. Then I had a more technical in-depth call with the person that would be my teammate. After that, I was invited into an all day onsite at the Shield AI offices in downtown San Diego. They sent a very thorough interview preparation email including where to park (they validate your parking for the day) and what to bring. My onsite interview consisted of a presentation I had to prepare and give on a topic of my choosing, and various 1:1s as well as a lunch with individuals from throughout the business team. Overall, the onsite was from about 9 AM to 2 PM, and included an office tour and hardware walkthrough where you get to see the robot.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Shield AI (Dallas, TX)
Interview
The conversations were semi casual. There was not much preparation required for the interview as there was not a strict set of questions the interviewers seemed to be following. It's apparent it's a startup environment, so expect not all processes are vetted out or timely.

Question 1
A time you disagreed with a coworker and how you handled it
They seem to have a really strong sales focus in recruiting. The recruiter gave me a 5 minute presentation about the company which just sounded like a sales call instead of conversation, and followed up to asked me if I had any questions.
I asked her “how does your company prioritize DEIB”.
She had no idea what DEIB was.
I turned down the interview and let her know it was not a fit.

Question 1
I asked her how she prioritized DEIB and was surprised by her response- as a recruiter she never heard of the term.
