The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sidley Austin (Washington, DC) in Aug 2011
Interview
Pretentious firm with a lot of snobby people, and that's apparent just from interviews. One interviewer discusses her various houses at ski and lakeside resorts. The firm comes off as aggressive which would be expected for any large defense firm, but there was a particular level of snobbery and entitlement that tainted the whole interview. It is an interactive interview process and you will have the opportunity to speak to a variety of partners and associates. In that way, they give you an honest view of the firm, what your first, second, etc. years will be like and the general culture. It’s just unfortunate that that culture will only appeal to a specific type of person applying for the money and prestige.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Mostly just questions about my background which, admittedly is slightly eclectic
Very easy and quick. Whole process took 3 weeks for me. Interviewed from application for prior year. Callback was like back-to-back screeners. Very friendly, just know what the office you applied for specializes in
I did callbacks with three people including 2 partners and 1 associate without doing any screeners before that; the process lasted for only 1.5 hrs; one of the interviewers was so rude and did not respect different culture backgrounds
I applied online. I interviewed at Sidley Austin (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2024
Interview
Like most OCI/pre-OCI interviews, the interview questions are mostly: why law, why Chicago, why Sidley, and why this practice. I can only speak to litigation interviews, but they want to know the ins and outs of any cases you have worked on during your 1L summer to see if you know what you are talking about. Everything else is about vibe and cultural fit just to get to know you because you have already qualified on paper if you have made it to a screener/callback interview.
