      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      Sep 10, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Snap (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2018

      Interview

The process was pretty standard except the way the process concluded was unprofessional in my opinion and left me with a bad taste. A recruiter contacted me through LinkedIn.com and we scheduled a screening interview shortly after. The recruiter seemed nice and said she is moving me to the next step which is an hour long technical interview over Hangouts. The technical interview went well in my opinion. He asked about my background, asked a few technical scenario type questions and then asked a coding question. The question was average, and I came up with a good but not best solution and then wrote it out correctly. He said there is a better solution, which I then realized after a minute. Then we worked through the better solution just in time to give me 10 mins to ask my own questions. The next week, I received do-not-reply email from a generic Snap Inc recruiting account that said it was not going to be a fit. I was surprised to not get a personalized communication from my recruiter, since this has been my experience with the few other tech companies that I applied for and they did not want to move forward. I emailed my recruiter to thank her and ask for any feedback, but I was ignored. I was not a fan of the impersonal do-not-reply email in the first place, but that was okay. But I was disappointed in the unprofessional way that my recruiter ignored my follow up email. I think it says something important about the company culture and I guess I'm glad to see that side of them instead of joining the company and finding out later how Snap folks treat candidates / each other.
