I was approached by a recruiter who sent my CV over to the company. I was then invited in for an interview in their London office. Once there I was interviewed by three people. The first was a manager who had flown in from the LA office. She was super friendly and made me feel at ease throughout the process. We chatted for a while about myself and why I wanted the role and then she left to fetch another colleague. The second colleague worked higher up in the ad review team. He felt rather standoff-ish and I did my best to offer translations of the adverts he showed me (even though he did not speak the language so I do not see how he could assess me). He gave little away and seemed generally disinterested as if he felt interviewing for this role was beneath him. When this part of the interview was over, he went out to find a french-speaking colleague to test my language skills. The second employee, unfortunately, did not pass on the task to her and she did not seem to understand what we were supposed to be doing. We had a lovely chat in French but I do not know whether this met the requirements of the other interviewers. Feedback was given to the recruiter but he said he could not put this in writing as it breached their nda (a shame if you ask me as it would have been useful). Unfortunately, I was rejected from this role as they felt I might not be able to cope with the nuances of the language. If you ask me this is down to unrealistic expectations of LSPs from employers as even a bilingual person raised in the UK would have had issues with what they suggested I would struggle with (or perhaps UK legislation simply makes it illegal to advertise a role as requiring a French native).
