I flew in from Chicago for an interview in Fort Lauderdale. Check-in time was 7am-I arrived about 6:15am. They have people go through the line while you wait and check your documents. I did see them send people home because their passport name did not match their social security card name so be sure they match and you have everything. Once you make it to the front they ask you which base you would like and take your resume. You are also given a name tag sticker that is color coded and then seated in an auditorium where a man who goes by the name of "Mr. Fabulous" presents information about the company. The presentation was okay and somewhat entertaining but I'm sure offensive for some. They pride themselves on professionalism however they use words a middle school child would find humorous during the presentation as well as make sexual innuendoes-not very professional. They allow no visible tattoos (which is standard for airlines) but they can use inappropriate words in a presentation…hmmm, strange. I highly doubt a more prestigious airline such as United or AA would take such as approach. They also show you an example of a monthly schedule of what an average flight attendant works in a month and it was at this point I decided it wasn't the right fit for me. I am a teacher looking to change careers but I think my teachers schedule has spoiled me a bit. After the presentation you separate into groups based on your name tag color. You walk up to the front of the group and take a "pageant question" out of a bowl and answer it. They are looking for enthusiasm and quick thinking, not a serious drawn out answer. When everyone is finished the flight attendants and recruiters leave the room to make their choices. They were gone about 15-20 minutes and returned and called numbers. The people who got their numbers called were told they would not be continuing. This portion confused me because it seemed there was no rhyme or reason in who they chose. There was one woman who was VERY enthusiastic and honest with her answer (enthusiastic from the get go) and she was cut so maybe it's fair to say don't be over the top. Just be yourself and let fate do it's work. Most of the flight attendants and recruiters there were very nice and friendly-overall it wasn't a bad experience. There were probably around 300-400 people there and I have a feeling they do their interview this way in order to get people to fly Spirit to get there. If you are interviewing with Spirit what better way to learn that actually see a real Spirit Airlines flight attendant in action. Even if 25% of the people attending have to fly in from other cities for the interview and half of them fly Spirit that is a lot of airline tickets sold and a lot of money in their pockets. Unless you are VERY serious about being a flight attendant and have to do it NOW I would wait until they have a cattle call in a city within driving distance. I wouldn't give them the business for this purpose.
