Although this company is known for it's slightly risqué marketing, the video used to introduce the 200 or so attendees to the company culture was not clever double entendre, it was crude junior high humor. The presentation made use of a photo of an obscene gesture regarding competitors and made references to various acts that need not be repeated here. I am certainly not a prude, but this was unexpected.
The day was somewhat disorganized. Approximately 20 minutes was allotted for the attendees to find and purchase lunch. After this, all who made it to the "second round" waited in a hot room for up to 3 hours to be interviewed. Bottled water was not offered but there was a fountain out in the hallway.
There are only two parts to the interview. Part one was "a pageant round" in which each person drew a question from a fishbowl and answered in a few seconds. Part two was a brief meeting with two employees across a table from you who, at least in my case, were unfriendly and admittedly tired. That was it. That's how you are chosen or not chosen to be a "safety professional" for Spirit?
Although we were all asked "to bring our energy and smiles," aside from one gentleman who stayed with us in the waiting area these two attributes were not evident in the staff I met in the interview room or in the hallways. In fact, employees from other interview rooms occasionally peeked out into the hallway asking "are we done yet?" or "how many more to we have?"
Suggestions:
-Men wear a suit and tie, women dress like a flight attendant (perhaps hair in a bun.)
-Bring a bottle of water and snacks.
-Arrive at least an hour early. Earlier if you can. This way you will get a lower number so you can interview before the staff is too tired.
-Don't be thrown off if the staff seems disinterested in you. Be prepared to power through it, be professional and smile!
