I applied and immediately did the online assessment. I have always done well academically, but some questions were somewhat confusing and I didn't think I'd hear back from them. However, I must not have done too poorly because a week or two later I received the email inviting me to the interview in Ft. Lauderdale taking place two weeks later. Flight and hotel are at your own expense. I arrived at 6:10am for the 7am interview. There was already a large group of people lined up inside mingling with each other. Make sure you look very professional and dress like a flight attendant. You definitely don't want to stand out as the one who looks unprofessional among everyone else. The recruiters are watching you from the moment you walk in, so have good posture, smile, and socialize. It is very easy to begin conversation because everyone is nervous and wants to look like they're willing to interact. Once more candidates started to show up (I believe there were 400 total), they moved us all to a bigger room and had us form two lines. For about 20-30 minutes we all just mingled and then they had us walk to another building in our lines. There we were required to show all required documents at the door and then stand in line to show them at the check-in table. (Make sure you bring photocopies of your social security card, ID, and passport PLUS the originals. A lot of people read that part wrong and only brought originals, including me. It's not a huge deal, but they will tell you to find a way to make copies of them at lunchtime if you didn't bring them.) At this point, we were also able to select which base we wanted and they said it was guaranteed if we were hired. After that, we went to a large auditorium and once everyone was checked in, we watched a Spirit employee do a 2-hour presentation about everything the job entails. It's honestly very fun and engaging. You are then broken into groups based on the color of your name tag. This is where things went downhill for a lot of us unfortunately. In my group, the recruiters did not smile at all and seemed annoyed to be there. It was intimidating, but I felt prepared thanks to reading a lot of these Glassdoor entries. You go up front with the people in your row and you have to say your name, your number, a question you pull from a fishbowl, and your answer. Then you put the card with the question on the table and repeat your name and number and go back to your seat. I felt very confident with my answer and wasn't worried about a thing. I did not falter one bit during my response and I made eye contact and spoke loudly with a smile. After everyone was done, they go out of the room to deliberate and let you have a break. Honestly, there were many of us who had great answers and felt like we would go to the next round. When the recruiters came back into the room, they said a long list of numbers and if your number was called, you went into the hallway. Unfortunately, mine was called. We were all thanked for our interest in Spirit, but were told we would not be continuing. I was truly shocked, as were many others. There were some candidates with a flawless appearance, great personality, and engaging answers who were turned down. I would say about 3/4 of our group was eliminated at that point, leaving only a few left. I believe so many people were cut so early because from what I heard from candidates later that day, they skipped the second phase (creating the fake airline with a group). They went straight into face-to-face interviews. All in all, the experience ended up being a positive one because I met a few friends at the interview and we spent the day at the beach and just shrugged it off. I'm really not sure what Spirit is looking for, but it wasn't any of us and I thought we all would have been great candidates for the position. There are two candidates who I know were extended an offer. One was from a foreign country, I cannot remember which one, and did not speak English well, let alone answer her question properly. They may possibly be looking for a more diverse team than they currently have. The other girl who got an offer looked professional, but she never smiled or seemed to want to converse with others. When I asked her how the rest of the interview went, she seemed standoffish and did not want to share much with me. That made me even more disappointed that I had not been offered a position because I was friendlier and happier than her, and I had been just experienced rejection. Oh well. I will probably apply for Spirit again in 6 months if I don't receive an offer from another airline, because they truly do seem like a great company to work for.
