After doing the online assessment and recording the video interview, I received my invite to the hiring event in Ft Lauderdale. Doors open at 7am, but GET THERE EARLY. I showed up around 6am and there were quite a few people ahead of me already. Probably 75-100 at least. As it approached 7, the line became extremely long. Probably 450 in total. While in line, be sure to interact with those around you. There are Spirit employees observing. Be sure to dress professionally. Suit if you're a guy. Ladies wore pantsuits, skirts, or dresses. Ladies, pull your hair back if it's long enough, preferably something other than a ponytail. There were lots of low buns. They are looking to see how you present yourself. Oh, and I have never seen so many black blazers/jackets all assembled in on place! After checking everyone in, sorting into groups, and sitting in the main ball room, the "about Spirit" presentation started around 8 and lasted an hour and a half. You get to learn about the company and hear from some different team members, but even more so, you get a chance to see the fun, edgy culture the company has. I love that it didn't feel stiff or rigid. Again, you are being observed, so be sure to interact whenever possible, and KEEP YOUR PHONES PUT AWAY. After the presentation, we split into 5 different groups and went to separate ballrooms. There were large round tables that held around 10-12. We were called up a table at a time to read and answer random questions from the bowl. We were told to state your name, number (on your name tag), question, then give response, followed by your name and number again. Some people sat down after answering, but it was better to just go to the back of the line and sit down as a group as the next table was lining up. After everyone was done, the observers (maybe 5-8) left the room to deliberate. People were cut at this point. They came back to the room and called numbers. If your number was called, the day was over for you. After all of the numbers were called, the room was significantly less crowded. My table started with 12 and only 3 remained. The Spirit employee messed with us when he told us that he was sorry, but he was going to have to let us all go.......... to lunch. They have lunch available in a separate ballroom, but it was cash only and expensive. $9 for a wrap, $3 for a bottle of water. There aren't any food places close enough to leave and get back on time. I suggest brining your own lunch. This was a banquet facility, and there were no on site restaurants. After lunch, those of us left went back to the main ballroom where we began that morning. They called people out about 5 at a time per group to go to their 1 on 1/ 1 on 2 interviews. Some were interviewed by a flight attendant and HR person, some only by an HR person. Those remaining in the main ballroom had the opportunity to ask flight attendants and HR questions. The actual interview was simple and pretty straightforward. You are first required to life a suitcase completely over your head, with arms straight. They mentioned it could be 50lbs, but I'm guessing it was maybe 20-25. Very easy to lift. After the interview, we were sent to the "Decision Room." In this room, we were called out by groups. You were either sent home or congratulated and extended a conditional job offer. The person who extended the offer actually walked us a little closer to the door and made it seem like we were being sent home. Ha. After this, we filled out some basic info on a computer, then went to a different room to fill out a stack of paperwork, get our picture taken, and get fingerprinted. We then went to another room to have our required documents checked. Make sure to BRING ALL OF YOUR REQUESTED DOCUMENTS, both original and copies. Follow the instructions sent with your invitation very specifically. Following this, we took our drug test, then went back to the room where our documents were checked to wait to be processed out. This part took forever. After I had finished everything, I sat there for almost 2 hours before I was able to leave. All in all, expect a VERY long day. Don't show weakness, haha. Make sure you are on top of your game, smiling, and interacting with those around you. They want to see your personality shine through.
