      Cashier/Barista Interview

      Dec 9, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2018

      Interview

It can be a long process to get an interview and even to start working. I was hired nearly a month before I started working and I heard stories from other coworkers that they had a similar experience or even had to wait a longer period of time. Originally, I applied online, and waited two weeks with no contact from a hiring manager. I later walked into a store and asked to speak to the manager to see when I could interview. She told me about a hiring event happening that day. The hiring event happened at a new store where about 100 candidates fought for just several open positions in the district's stores that were hiring. I was lucky enough to win a spot and within the month I had been hired and the paperwork done, yet I had to wait even longer to start training (about 6-8 weeks after hiring date).

      Interview

Inconsistent and not transparent. Very vague and not sharing details of the role or pay rate. Odd questions that didn’t have to do with the role but the person themselves was nice.

      Interview

The Starbucks barista interview process is usually casual, conversational, and focused heavily on customer service and personality rather than coffee experience. After applying online, candidates are often contacted by a store manager for a short in-person interview at the café. The interview typically lasts 20–45 minutes and includes questions about teamwork, handling busy environments, customer service, availability, and why you want to work at Starbucks. Managers mainly look for friendly, reliable, and adaptable candidates who can work well under pressure and create positive customer interactions. Some locations may conduct a second interview, but many hire after just one meeting, followed by onboarding and barista training.
