I applied to Starbucks a couple months ago for their Shift Supervisor position, and was quickly called in for an interview. Having 10+ years in the food & beverage industry, I was confident of being able to secure the position. When I arrived, I was offered a coffee on them, and told to sit anywhere, and that the manager would be right with me. The manager, who was very recently promoted, was friendly enough. It was a very generic interview, in that she stuck to her company interview sheet, asking questions from the sheet and pausing to write each answer down. At the end of the interview, she told me she would love to bring me on board, but that they had to conduct a background check that would take anywhere from a few days, to a couple weeks. She told me she would call me as soon as it came back, and would get me training. A week passed, and I called to check up, and she told me it hadn't come back yet. Another week passes, and I called to check up, and she was not available. I, then, got an email, nearly 3 weeks later, saying that she couldn't offer me the Shift Supervisor position, but could get me on as a Barista. She then stated, that I would need to go online, fill out another application, and she would run my background check, again. So I filled out another application online, and she never got in contact with me again, despite my efforts to reach her. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago..... Seeing all the advertising for Starbucks hiring, I applied again. A few days later, I am contacted by a manager from Starbucks that had recently relocated. He has an in depth discussion with me over the phone, stating that he was curious to what I was looking for. He asked me to come in for another interview. I met with him, and another manager from out of the area, and the interview was completely different. They asked about my background and kept asking me, "Why Starbucks?". I found it to be somewhat unnerving to be interrogated by two managers, who never even explained what I was interviewing for. Again, I have not heard from them again. I find myself completely baffled by their hiring process. I understand they are still trying to get their act together here in town, but they could benefit from having more experienced people in leadership, for sure.
