      Recruiting Coordinator Interview

      Jan 11, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Stripe (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

This was by far the most unprofessional and unorganized interview processes I have ever experienced. Throughout the three month process, I had 4 interviews and one writing assignment, speaking with 8 employees overall. About half were pressed for time or uninterested in interviewing me, with one in particular being openly disdainful and seemingly trying to “trick” me with uncomfortable questions. It was clear that Stripe’s recruitment process is deeply broken. They so desperately want to be seen as the anti-tech bro, but overextend their recruitment process beyond what is efficient, effective, or respectful to candidates, making it abundantly clear throughout that they think they are better than you. On one occasion, I did not receive a follow up on an interview for three weeks after the date on which I was told to expect a response despite numerous (unanswered) follow up emails. In fact, I don't think any of their processes happened when they said they would. I really wanted to like this company because the product is interesting and the opportunity seemed like a good one but would not recommend this process to my worst enemy. I want to emphasize that most everyone was friendly, but quite a few seemed like they would rather be doing something else, which is not uncommon but definitely frustrating. Most worrisome, however, was that they strung me along for almost 3 months, often waiting until the last minute to address scheduling, and then were uncooperative regarding receiving meaningful feedback.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

First phone screen was basic getting to know you questions, nothing too advanced. After that is a writing assignment where they propose a few different recruitment scenarios (scheduling problems, poor culture fit candidates, directing cold emails to available positions, etc.). First on site was 2 30-min sessions: first, a skills test on task prioritization and scheduling aptitude, and second another sort of getting to know you session, though the questions asked seemed a bit hostile. One in particular ("What did you wish we had asked you?") seemed intended to deceive, as my response ("No, I'm confident that I highlighted my relevant skills and experience.") was met with barely withheld derision. The second on site included a casual time to get coffee with others in the same role, and a few more 30-minute sessions of basic getting to know you questions (that really should have been a panel or something because they asked nearly identical questions). Expect to be asked about how you've dealt with conflict with managers.

      Interview

Had a brief 30 minute "behavioral" phonically interview. A couple days later I got an email saying they were not moving forward. I did not get any real feedback on why I was not selected to move on to the next round.

      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Stripe (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2022

      Interview

I applied through the stripe site and was contacted within a few days to set up an interview through a scheduling tool- the interviewer ended up having to reschedule just prior to our meeting, but we did finally connect. Initial interview was pretty basic with general questions, the interviewer was personable and gave me a take home test consisting of composing answers to a series of emails to be completed in three business days. I was not able to submit my test to the link provided as it was no longer active after 1 day, so I emailed it to the recruiter as indicated if there were issues submitting and have not heard from them since. Stripe seemed like an interesting place to work, but the recruiting process leaves a bit to be desired.
