I recently attended an interview that required me to travel an hour for a face-to-face Level 1 discussion. Since the recruiter had already shared the job description via email, I felt well-prepared for the questions. However, upon reaching the office, I was extremely disappointed. The recruiter informed me that the role was a contract position under third-party payroll—something that was never mentioned in the job description.
What frustrated me even more was her reasoning. She explained that junior roles were offered only on a contract basis, while full-time positions were reserved for managerial and senior roles. When I asked if seven years of experience was considered “junior” in their company, she had no response. At that point, I had no choice but to leave politely, saying I would think about it and get back to them—though I knew she wouldn’t follow up.
This experience was an eye-opener, revealing how some corporate practices can be misleading and self-serving.
