While I appreciated how transparent they were about the hiring process, the amount of work they make you complete for the performance task is absurd. But most importantly, they preach racial equity but their interview process is inherently rooted in white supremacist culture and values.
The initial zoom interview was fluffy and warm with the recruiter talking about racial equity. How about considering how overly complex performance tasks put an undue burden on candidates of color who have no power or voice to say that it's unfair? How about assuming the best of your candidates of color and asking for prior work samples rather than asking them to read articles, write responses, create project plans and rehearse a presentation? That's racial equity.
It's demeaning to present these tasks as performance related when you're assessing literacy skills which is inherently biased. White supremacist culture includes a sense of urgency - so asking your candidates to complete tasks around the holiday with little turnaround time is fair? White supremacist culture is valuing quantity over quality - giving them 2 hours to complete 5 complex tasks that easily takes a day of work if you want quality. White supremacist culture is believing in only one right way. This was evident by the tasks themselves.
Don't talk to me about racial equity and fail to design an inclusive interview process. Think about how you treat prospective candidates who are already feeling powerless. Giving them performance tasks that take a day of work and saying you only need to spend 2 hours is unfair and unreasonable.
I would not work for this company or recommend them to anyone.
