I'm a mid, but I applied anyway, out of curiosity.
I was surprised to receive an attitude test instead of the classic technical one.
The test was divided into 2 parts: 1) a sort of IQ test 2) a culture-fit test. I had 20 minutes to complete each.
The webapp used was bugged and ended both tests 3-5 minutes early, preventing me from finishing them.
The questions in the first test were completely unrelated to a designer job, and felt like taking a fake online IQ test.
E.g. "There's a circle with number 1, a square with number 5, a triangle without a number, and a square with number 6, what number should be assigned to the triangle?"
Or "Organize a meeting with the following people, taking into consideration their free time slots".
I mean, seriously? This was by far the worst and most disrespectful hiring selection I went through. And I went through a lot.
The second part was as despicable as the first one. There was a list of sentences, and for each, I had to rate 1 to 5 how much I agreed with them. Most of them were about being a team player and doing things your manager ordered, even if you didn't like them.
The main issue with this kind of culture fit tests is that they assume people always behave the same way in similar contexts, which is as naive as wrong.
I think this HR-distopic-fantasy-world type of test is just one of the many symptoms of how the game industry is sinking into madness. I really hope for a change.
If you receive anything like this, just refuse to go through it. We definitely deserve better.
