Healthcare Business Banking Relationship Manager Interview

      Application

I interviewed at U.S. Bank (Newport Beach, CA)

      Interview

Phone screened by a recruiter, followed by a separate 30 minute phone interview. I was very surprised and disappointed by their templated and scripted interview process. Their HR department and candidate evaluation process are the epitome of what is broken with modern HR processes at large companies. A robot or AI could have done the same job. Very impersonal. It was entirely a one sided conversation, The recruiter/HR employee was not capable of having any type of relevant conversation outside of their scripted corporate template box. They ask very specific questions to check very specific boxes without understanding a candidate’s background, or the value they are capable of bringing to the organization. If your professional experience isn’t completely linear with regard to the role and industry, regardless of your education, business acumen, experience, or capabilities, they are not interested. In my forties, age discrimination seemed to be an issue as well. Maybe it would have been different once you get to an in person interview with the hiring manager? I would have declined the position if it had been offered as I took a position with a smaller financial organization that offered equal or greater opportunities, where the interview process involved a more comprehensive evaluation of my skills and was much more personal and less robotic. Great companies and hiring managers are able to have conversations that allow them to recognize great talent when they see it, even if that candidate doesn’t check every single box they are looking for.
