      Staff Assistant Interview

      Feb 26, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Washington, DC
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at U.S. Senate (Washington, DC) in Feb 2020

      Interview

I interviewed in several Senate offices and the experience was overall favorable. The hardest part in my opinion is landing an interview in the first place -- I applied for dozens of positions before getting two, one in a member office and one in a committee. I was contacted over email to schedule the interviews, and each one ended up lasting about 30 minutes to an hour. Questions were pretty standard -- what was my past experience, why did I want to work on the Hill, why this office, career goals, etc. For the committee position, I also was asked to do a short writing assignment in which I wrote what I would do in various high stress situations. I was called back for a second interview in one office but not the other. However, I ended up taking a different job not on the Hill.
