I applied through my university's career services and got a phone call about a week later, which was essentially a mini-phone interview that lasted about 10 minutes where the recruiter just wanted to make sure I was serious about the position, asking me why I applied and things like that. Immediately after she asked if I could do a Skype interview with another recruiter later that afternoon and I said yes. So, I'm in my professional attire, I've done my research, I have my resume by my laptop for reference, I'm in a quiet place with a plain, clear background, I'm ready. The recruiter calls 5 minutes late, and her apology is that she was on the phone trying to close a deal on something, which doesn't bother me you know, it's business. She asks me questions and I start talking and her cell phone rings and SHE ANSWERS IT after saying "sorry hold on--" So I'm like "..okayyy..." watching her talk for a minute. Then she gets off and apologizes and we continue and THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. By now I'm just like, really, you couldn't put your phone down for 20-30 minutes or get someone else who wasn't so busy? Nonetheless I'm still smiling and being positive and when she finally decides to focus her attention on me, she asks "How do I feel about working in Japan?" (The program requires you to live in Japan for half a year where the headquarters are). I say that I think it's necessary to be in the country where the headquarters business and the business culture, that I have international experience interning abroad so it wouldn't be a problem, and that I know I would really enjoy my time there and wouldn't have a bad time in a new country. There she promptly cut me off and said "Ok, but this isn't about 'enjoying' yourself or having a 'good time' in a new country, we aren't handing out free vacations here, this is a serious program and we don't want to bring people who are just going to party and not take the program seriously" and she seriously ranted on about this for almost 3 long minutes, and I'm just sitting there wide-eyed wondering A) When I ever said I was going to party, go on a free vacation, or not take the program seriously and B) why she totally disregarded everything I said before that? After she ranted at me I tried to politely explain that I would not take the program lightly and reinforce my international work experiences and the results I achieved but she was pretty much done with me at that point and I could say the feeling was mutual. Needless to say I didn't receive a call for another interview and if I had I would have ignored it without even responding. I've read reviews that this company does not treat its employees well and I got a big taste of that from this short 15 minute Skype interview.
The recruiters were rude, all about themselves, didn't care about what the interviewer said, and seemed to be waiting for you to say key words--either words that they wanted to hear or words they would automatically use to eliminate you, like saying you would "enjoy." This was one of the most unpleasant interviews I've ever had; good luck to all those who get one.
