I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Via Transportation
Interview
I applied online and received an email to schedule a phone interview two weeks later. The first call was with the head of the team and went well, if not a little rushed. He asked some questions about my management experience and how I’d solve some problems. After that, another phone interview was scheduled. This call was with another member of the team. All the questions seemed to be things that the person hired for the role would have to be thinking about on a day-to-day basis. They were thought-provoking and challenging. There were no behavioral questions or cultural fit questions. This position is for someone who could bring new knowledge to the team, so some of the questions didn’t make much sense. I got an email a week later saying they decided not to continue the process with me and that it’s their policy not to provide feedback to interviewees. The job has since been reposted.
In the second phone interview, I asked what the rest of the hiring process entailed and he said: a potential third phone interview, an in-person full day interview, and a potential technical test before an offer is made.
I say that it was a neutral experience for two reasons: the first person was clearly rushed and the second person was at times condescending. Additionally, the three people I interacted with (two phone interviews, one recruiting manager) did not make up a diverse group (all men). Possibly the way it is at Via, but not encouraging for women and other underrepresented groups.

I applied online. I interviewed at Via Transportation
Interview
Long story short — I’ve probably interviewed at Via for at least four different positions over the past two years, all of which somehow have different names but also incredibly similar descriptions and roles. And every time I interview I’m being interviewed by someone with far fewer years of experience, who sounds incredibly bored and asks zero questions that are related to my actual work background and skill set. The questions are canned and boring and slim and clearly not modified from a script. I’m not sure why I still apply except for every few months or so a recruiter reaches out with what looks like a great urbanist/policy/tech role. And every time, despite being put off by “elite university” being included in a job description (how pretentious), I apply against my better judgement — and land an interview! It’s always a disappointment, and I’m not sure what this company is actually looking for or why they choose the interview strategy that they do. And, on a side note, if you’re a transportation company that has sustainability as a core principle, you wouldn’t require people to relocate to an unaffordable city for a job that can be easily done at home. Anyways, good luck out there for those who who will still apply. I don’t think it’s worth it.
Series of 7-8 interviews across 4 rounds. Long process, but hiring was clearly taken seriously and provided an opportunity to get to know the culture better and get to know lots of different team members.
