      Sales Associate Interview

      Aug 15, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Terre Haute, IN
      Accepted offer
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Victoria's Secret (Terre Haute, IN) in Aug 2012

      Interview

I applied in person at the store. It was super casual; I just walked in, asked if they were hiring, and was given an application. I turned it in the next day, and the associate told me the hiring manager would call by next week. Sure enough, the hiring manager called about a week later on Monday and set up an interview for Wednesday. Wear all black! The interview was a group interview of six girls including myself in the food court, and we interviewed for the hiring manager and one other person--I think she was in charge of making the schedules. Both of them really stressed being honest about availability at the beginning and end of the interview. Basically they asked a single question and went around the table to hear everyone's answer. All of the questions were retail-oriented. I didn't have any previous retail experience, but I answered my questions with the knowledge I've obtained as a customer and how I like salespeople to approach me. It was pretty nerve-wracking, and the managers were a little intimidating. Just answer clearly and honestly, however, and you will be fine. After they finished the questions, they handed each of us a sheet to write our availability down and dismissed us. They did tell us that we would have to be available on Black Friday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas to be considered for the position. After the interview was over, two other girls and I stood outside the store and talked for about an hour. They were fabulous! The manager walked by several times and talked to us each time, and one of the girls received a call offering her the job within minutes of the interview concluding. After exchanging numbers, we went our separate ways. About another hour after that the manager called me and offered me a job also. She told me my pay would be $7.50/hour, and the dress code would be all black--shoes, undershirts, everything. Fifteen minutes after that another associate called me and scheduled my onboard, which is basically where I sign all of the paperwork, for the following Monday. I'm very excited to start my training, especially since my coworkers seem exceptionally friendly! Definitely give it a shot, and don't worry if you don't have any retail experience! Just look professional at the interview, speak clearly and honestly, and let your personality shine through! I wasn't overly bubbly or anything, either. Just be yourself!

      Interview

The interview was done as a group and was pretty casual. The hiring manager asked a mix of situational and behavioural questions, about 3-4. For me personally as I was hired during a seasonal period, having an open availability seemed to be key

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself, why do you want to work for VS, can you recall a situation, tell me about a time when you dealt with a difficult customer and how did you handle it
