The recruiter was very responsive and kept the ball moving throughout the interview process. However, I found the "Chief People Officer" to be a bit cold and slightly unengaged. I went through a total of 8 interviews for a role that I was extremely well fitted and qualified for. The role required a niche skillset, which I happen to be a SME in. Not only am I a SME with the unique skillset that this role called for, I have a deep level of passion for and commitment to driving the "hands on" operational processes and strategies around helping to reshape and transform healthcare from volume (FFS) to value based care. After interviewing with several leaders who were much less experienced than I am in this particular market (through their own admission to me and according to their LinkedIn profiles), I was advised that I am "over qualified" for the role that I applied for. I found it interesting that a small start up company in a niche market wouldn't be interested in retaining highly qualified candidates who are capable of helping them succeed in their endeavors, even if that means perhaps using then in a capacity/role other than the one that they are supposedly "over qualified" for. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I am a person of color and I did note that I did not see any diversity at their Chicago office while I was there. It is important to me that I work for an organization that is inclusive and embraces diversity. It's one thing to say that you do, but it's entirely something else to "walk the talk." Of the 7 leaders I interviewed with, none of them were a minority. Upon receiving the "rejection phone call," I graciously thanked the original HR professional for her time and help throughout the process, and I also shared my observation and disappointment about the lack of diversity within the organization. As a highly skilled, competent and qualified candidate (which they all agreed), I found it interesting that I wasn't offered some sort of role within the organization since they were well aware of my "overly qualified" skillset before flying me into their Chicago office for final interview rounds. I hope my feedback to HR was received in the spirit in which it was given, and that it was passed along to senior leaders within the organization who will use it constructively. I wish them continued growth and success.
