      Internship Interview

      Apr 8, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Denver, CO
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Xcel Energy (Denver, CO) in Mar 2018

      Interview

After applying for a finance-related internship, I was given a call to schedule an interview. The only issue was that I missed the call as I was working in a service position and the individual I was in contact with did not respond to my return calls or emails. Instead they chose to follow up with calls weekly on the same day of the week at the exact same time for several weeks, a time that I had made clear in my voicemails and emails that I would be consistently unavailable. It was very clear that this individual had little to no exposure to the position. Other than a fairly simple application, there was no screening other than being contacted and asked to schedule an in person interview. After finally succeeding in scheduling the in person interview, which I confirmed was for a finance internship, I arrived at my interview and met with two individuals who I would be reporting to. It then quickly became apparent that the team was on the technical side of the firm, no where near finance and that it wasn't a financial role whatsoever. They were looking for somebody with a background in engineering/computer science. I can appreciate that the team I met with was probably as frustrated with the interview process as I was as they clearly just interviewed candidates that had been passed their way. Although I didn't think I had quite the right skill set that they were looking for once this mix up was sorted out, I decided to continue the interview anyways as the role did seem fairly interesting. The two individuals I met with were extremely professional and courteous and I'm sure they would have been exceptional colleagues, albeit in a different field. To my surprise, I was given an offer on the spot.
