      Analytics Manager Interview

      Feb 19, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Zeno Group (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2021

      Interview

If you want to work for a team that doesn't seem to understand work/life balance, then apply away. This experience started with the EVP of Digital Analytics reaching out to me over LinkedIn and asking if I would be interested in speaking further. I'm always up for networking and a conversation, and we had a great phone conversation. He's very friendly and smart, and he had stated they were having a difficult time finding the right candidate. We agreed to continue the conversation and I had two video interviews scheduled the following week where I met with both team members. Both seemed overworked and on the brink of exhaustion, but they were very smart and obviously need help. What struck me as alarming is the amount of time they poured into these jobs and how that was expected of this new team member and not to complain about the amount of work because it was expected to be awfully hard. Personally, I work hard during the day but after a certain amount of hours (8-10) it's time to turn that off and focus on what really matters, which isn't work. Maybe this came through during my interviews, I had already assumed I wasn't a match due to my lack of a workaholic lifestyle. Also the idea that as soon as it was safe work time would be mostly spent in the office, which to me being remote prior to the pandemic I don't fully understand companies that require "butts in seats" to be productive, especially after 2020. After these interviews and writing some thank you emails I had not heard a peep from anyone at Zeno. I wasn't too concerned as I figured the feelings were mutual, but I confirmed I was no longer in the running when the EVP posted on LinkedIn for help in finding a candidate for his team about three weeks after my interviews. I wrote him a short professional note telling him good luck, with no reply 2 weeks since then. The red flags and gut feeling were dead on and a great warning and why I felt it was necessary to share my experience. Please be careful where you spend your time and energy. You can always work and make money, you will never get your time back.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions focused on the familiarity of the list of tools they had for this role, how well you can work independently, and how you can handle juggling multiple projects and last-minute ad-hoc requests. It seems they keep getting new business but can't attract (or keep) the right talent to staff the clients.
