Cyanotech transforms the scum of the earth into health products. The majority of the company's sales come from Spirulina Pacifica, a nutritional supplement made from tiny blue-green vegetable algae and sold as powder, flakes, and tablets. The firm also produces BioAstin, an astaxanthin-based dietary supplement full of antioxidants. Cyanotech produces the microalgae used in its product lines at a 90-acre production facility on the Kona Coast of Hawaii. It sells them primarily to health food and dietary supplement makers. In order to focus on its nutritional supplement business, the company has discontinued some other product lines, including NatuRose, an algae-based pigmentation used to color farm-raised fish.
