The Hannaford brothers began selling produce in Portland, Maine, in 1883, but it took a lot more than fresh tomatoes and apples to grow their business.
The brothers looked at their customers and understood what they cared about most – family, community, quality, value – and built the business accordingly, with core values that still show us the way. Today, we are still headquartered (proudly) in the Portland area - you may have seen it as "best place to live" and certainly at the top of every foodie list in the world.
But enough bragging - we still live the values that defined us nearly two hundred years ago in the nearly 200 stores where our roots still firmly planted - in the Northeast.
