Although its freighters might not be as fast off the line as the drag-racers once driven by its namesake, cargo carrier Kalitta Air is quick enough for its customers. The company offers both scheduled and chartered transportation services with a fleet of about 20 Boeing 747 freighters, which have been used to transport cargo ranging from delicate medical equipment to heavy machinery to livestock to US mail. Drag-racing legend Conrad Kalitta owns the company, which began operations in 2000. Kalitta, who also owns an aircraft leasing company, entered the aviation business in 1967 to transport parts for auto manufacturers and suppliers.
