Built in 1912 as a residence, the posh resort outside Charlottesville underwent a massive upgrade five years ago. The Edenic setting is best appreciated with a glass of wine on the terrace, watching the sun dip over the infinity pool and 18-hole Pete Dye–designed golf course. You could spend an entire weekend at the resort, with its spa, European red-clay tennis courts, polished rooms, and candlelit Marigold by Jean-Georges restaurant. The Yellow Door Foundation, the Building Goodness Foundation and the Hospice of the Piedmont are the three recipients.
