Mission McGard produces the highest quality products at the most reasonable cost to meet our customers' needs. We strive to continually improve ourselves and our products while targeting our zero defects goal. We shall conform to the requirements specified in ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
Description McGard’s history begins with L.D. McCauley, Inc., which first began business in 1959, specializing in precision machining for government contracts to NASA and the Military. These contracts called for work with many specialized alloy steels to produce critical parts in rocket engines and navy fighter planes. At that time many of these alloys were “classified” materials available only for government contracts. It was during this era that L.D. McCauley, Inc. became proficient in the machining and processing of the materials currently used in McGard’s security systems.

In the early 1960’s the owner and president of L.D. McCauley, Inc., Mr. Lewis D. McCauley, designed and patented a security nut to prevent the theft of automobile rims and tires. The market demand grew and distribution networks and dealers were established. L.D. McCauley, Inc. dropped out of the government contract marketplace and devoted its efforts to the manufacture of Wheel Locks. A packaging and marketing facility was required and in 1964 McGard, Inc. was formed.

Through the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, product demand continued to grow. Ford Motor Corporation, General Motors and Chrysler began purchasing Wheel Locks and installing them as options and standard equipment at the assembly lines. In order to service the sharply increasing demand, McGard, Inc. and L.D. McCauley, Inc. tripled in size.

A formal Customer Service Department was established for key registration and replacement. International patents were obtained and McGard’s market became international.

In 1980, McGard elected to broaden its product line. The “Special Products Division,” known as SPD was formed. SPD searches out new markets and product applications that are non-automotive oriented for its Intimidator line of security products. The first market SPD entered was the Oil and Gas Industries. Locks to secure oil and gas storage tanks, meters and valuable high-pressure valve assemblies known as “Christmas Trees” are sold and serviced out of our satellite offices. SPD continues to develop products that bring the McGard Intimidator brand of security and safety to the water, electric, cable, natural gas, telecommunications and correctional industries as well as developing new products and markets current standard products including: locks to secure manhole covers, water and gas shutoffs, gas meters, fixtures in prisons, cable television junction boxes and fire hydrants.

Today McGard’s Quality Wheel Locks are recognized by automobile companies and car owners worldwide. Through McGard Deutschland, McGard’s European Company located near Nordheim, West Germany, McGard Locks are sold to car companies such as Mercedes Benz, Volvo, BMW, Ford, Honda and Porsche as well as the European aftermarket. McGard’s Japan sales office, established in 1999, located outside Tokyo, currently sells to the Aftermarket, as well as to most of the major car companies including: Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Subaru. Here in the United States, McGard customers include Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. Port Installation Programs have been developed for imported car lines such as Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura and Mitsubishi.

L.D. McCauley and McGard’s mission is to remain a family business dedicated to growth and the development of challenge and opportunity for all. We are committed to Western New York and continue to provide a stimulus to its economy through long-term business continuity. This will occur by maximizing our profits through increasing our dominance in the automotive security markets; original equipment, both domestic and foreign; the aftermarket; and the research and development of new markets and new products for our unique expertise in mechanical security application systems.
