Description The Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative (SMBSC) provides its approximately 560 member/farmers a sweet deal. Processing 6,500 beets a day, the co-op turns the farmers' beet crops into beet sugar. The co-op produces refined sugar, molasses, and pulp pellets for livestock feed. It provides its members with beet seed, agronomy research and services, farm support products and services, and workers' compensation insurance. The co-op offers its products in North America; it exports its dried beet pulp to Europe. The co-op's refined and liquid sugars are marketed through Cargill Sweeteners; its by-products (dried and pelleted pulp and molasses for use in cattle feed) is marketed by Midwest Agri-Commodities.
