Good perks, culture is failing

Pros

There are great perks (on-site restaurant, on-site gym with free personal trainers, film festivals, etc.).

Cons

Upward mobility is lacking. It's very hard to move up and opportunities are lacking. Some of the people I worked with were great, but there was a lot of unnecessary drama that plagued the environment and culture. Benefits aren't as great as they used to be and I didn't enjoy going to work anymore upon leaving.

Pros

This place has it all personal trainers in a great gym free of charge for employees and their families. Discounted delicious food you won't even believe the food for between $1.00 and 2.50 for employees. On site massage therapist. Really nice people and no micro managing. Lots of room for growth in the company all managers and higher ups all started as entry level employees.

Cons

Have not found any yet! Great place to work. I know I am suppose to write 20 words I will update this if I find some cons.

Going down hill

Pros

Less Pro's all the time but work life balance was good but it had gone down in recent years. They do through a good party.

Cons

No focus on the employee. Recent changes in benefits and bonus structure resulted in around 20% pay-cut part of this is more expensive insurance but not all of it. They treat there full time professionals like they are call center employees (in some ways even worse) They no longer look for employee input to solve problems it is all done by executive committees. Poor technology choices make career advancement impossible. !-800 no longer uses main stream technology which makes working for them a 'career ending move'

1-800 Contacts Response

I agree that things have changed. All businesses change over time. Changes come because of new ownership or changes in strategy. Change is not bad it provides opportunity for growth and challenges. What hasn’t changed at 1-800 Contacts is our core values of taking care of our customers and employees. 1-800 Contacts cares about their professional employees and encourages them to share ideas and help the business grow. 1-800 Contacts believes strongly in mentoring employees and helping them be successful in their careers. One of the things I enjoy most about working here is that I am continually challenged to grow and improve, and then I have managers or other mentors who help me obtain that growth.
