We are disappointed to hear you feel this way about 4Wall. I assure you that the 4Wall truly cares about all employees. The entertainment lighting industry is a fast-paced environment, that can sometimes requires overtime, which we try to make clear at time of hire. As for pay rates, 4Wall consistently reviews our pay practices and strives to pay all employees fairly. I am happy to hear that you were able to receive a raise after only 6 months with the company.

Pros

Learn a lot about equipment and the industry, Always opportunities for training if you're interested, and the company is nation wide with new locations popping up so there is room to relocate. It's a positive work environment with a lot of great people that have a lot of experience in the industry to learn from. 4Wall takes care of their equipment well, so most of the time the equipment is in really good condition and great to work on. There is always a resource for how to work on gear you may not have worked on before. Everyone is willing to help you learn and to teach you things about the gear, processes, and expectations. Ask questions and you'll get some great answers.

Cons

The total compensation just isn't worth it. The pay is low, above the living wage calculation for a single person, but below the living wage calculation if you have even one child (for my state at least). The company does NOT make up for it with paid time off and sick leave. It shouldn't take half a decade of working somewhere to get enough PTO to take off for your (and your kids if you have any) doctors appointments, have a mental health day every once in a while, take a vacation with your family of a reasonable length, and still have some left over for family or other emergencies. The first couple of years that you work there, if you get sick a couple of times, or your kids get sick and you need to take off, that's pretty much all of your time. The PTO policy does not account for the fact that the warehouse is not climate controlled and you are more likely to get sick in those conditions. According to OSHA in 70-77 degrees F strenuous work is possibly unsafe. Over 77 is a high risk of heat related illness with strenuous work. In an un-air conditioned warehouse where temperatures in the summer reach over 77 regularly, with radiant heat from various sources and lifting heavy consistently, it is unreasonable that if someone worked hard and isn't feeling well they can't afford to take a day off to recover. They do have breaks throughout the day and encourage you to take it easy if you're not feeling well, but that really doesn't mean much when the exhaustion compounds so much over the summer months. The company operates on PTO and pay scales that are a relic of a time when employees didn't know any better and didn't know to ask for better. I do not think it will work for them forever.

Pros

Great environment, caring management, amazing opportunities and noticeable team/family environment! 4Wall shows they care about their employees through the constant fun activities, contests and employee appreciation news letters. All locations are interconnected and no one location feels isolated. There are always employees travelling between locations and tons of cross-training. The model of making all locations the same definitely keeps any issues to a minimum and there's no animosity that I've been able to notice... Overall, joining 4Wall was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time!!

Cons

As an ever-growing company there are some long days and plenty of work, but I look at that as more of "job security" than a con... :) About the only negative I can think of is the health insurance is on the expensive side, but maybe that will change during the next open enrollment.
