Pros

Both the CEO and Chief Of Staff were welcoming and nice during the interview but....

Cons

No negotiating your wage or benefits or they won’t hire you. I got offered a position and because I did not take the offer straight out without negotiating, they took the job off the table. They didn’t even counter offer my negotiating or anything just dismissed me totally because I didn’t immediately accept. What they offered was very low wage wise for the higher position that it was. I didn’t even ask for more money, just more time off. They say they offer you 4 weeks off to get you excited, but that includes holidays, so if you take out the 10 government holidays that most companies give, you only get 2 weeks, which apparently is non negotiable. I would think for an organization with such a great mission that is doing such great things, that they would also have some training on how to attract and retain great staff.

Pros

The vacation and sick time off, the staff who have direct client interaction are great, and providing support and safety to women in DV situations is rewarding work.

Cons

Not much support from management. Working alone during shifts when there are several families in the shelter who need assistance. You don’t get compensated for the overtime spent. You are placed on call for one week.
