Hard Place to Work

Pros

Good benefits and salary, good hours, good for people who need a work life balance.

Cons

Very hard place to work. More political than anyplace I've ever seen. The rules for staying out of trouble are many and very hard to comply with. People are all about protecting themselves and do very little to help each other. Current reorg started in February and is still very much ongoing.

Pros

Great training program and learning experience, good for people with low incomes and need training to enhance their employability.

Cons

The program is only for 4 years in the life of the Senior Citizen, if you are not hired by the end of 4 years, then you need keep prospecting.

State Office Professional Staff

Pros

Great pay, great benefits, meaningful work. Staff are very smart, savvy people; volunteers are awesome!

Cons

A lot of micromanaging by the National organization so that staff often cannot address the highest priority issues within the state. Frequent "restructuring" and turnover at the national level can be disorienting.
