Pros

A company that if you are a reliable employee, you'd swear there's no boss. Not the top of the pay scare on paper, but when you factor in the OT after 8 hours in a day, and benefits and pension for just $60ish a month (Union dues), hard to beat.

Cons

In the past few years, they choose a degree over knowledge of the industry. With the managerial hires right out of school, numbers start to rule all aspects of the business, and any knowledgeable worker can see that it'll be the demise of a once stellar company.

Pros

Not many pros, I have worked for several trucking company's in my career, ABF was once the best by far, senior management changes over the past 8 plus years has shown lack of leadership. It truly bothers me to see the direction the company has since since Robert Young retired, he was a great leader.

Cons

Very poor leadership is running it into the ground fast, ABF Management has become MIRCO MANAGING (expecially terminal managers) A company once known for bringing the best leaders to run the company at all levels has faded away, and the creatation of non essential jobs titled ""specialist" is alarming, at a time when the company is laying off due to the economy, they have non productive style positions. while at the terminal level we are expected to work with fewer drivers etc. I will say one of the most alarming is the Terminal Manager positions are being filled by" green no experience" people that fit in the same mold, it's like a cookie cutter position, they are all the same. As long as they have a degree, it doesn't matter what the degree is in, just need that piece of paper. The company struggles to make money due to poor leadership, not JUST the economy, The new managers are living on the computer, hiding in thier office, playing with numbers, get up and see the customers, the workers, where the prifit is.

Pros

Good pay and plenty of exposure to the entire operations.

Cons

Virtually zero feedback, no standards and serious waste in regards to overtime and schedules. Zero on the job training, if you come to this company without operational experience it will be frustrating. No vacation the first year, but you are allowed to use one of your weeks from your second year after 6 months.
