Pros

ABF is very selective in their hiring, and most everyone who works there is highly intelligent. They are very understanding of personal issues where timeoff is needed.

Cons

Career paths for many jobs are non-existent. Management is very departmentalized. They don't have a good system for development of employees.

Pros

ABF is a great company to work for as a whole. The people are wonderful and the upper management seems reliable and strong. Salary and overall employee satisfaction, however, varies between departments and the employee location. Despite economic hardships, the company as a whole has remained strong. Corporate headquarters are new, very clean, professional and well groomed grounds.

Cons

Working in the corporate headquarters is a blessing but there is limited availability for promotion. The company is good to promote from within, however there are rarely positions available that the everyday person may apply for that are not considered "lateral moves." It's very hard to move up.

Overall Good Job

Pros

With the new contract in place you can make good money here especially when there's overtime available. Union protection and benefits to include the best healthcare for you and your family as well as a pension for when you retire. Very relaxed environment you will never feel as though you are being rushed or stressed at work in comparison with other jobs.

Cons

Work goes based on seniority so you might have a schedule or job title that you may not like. It'll take a while to get a driving job because of seniority you will be working the dock or hostling mostly. Overtime is great when its there but sometimes its slow and a 40 hour check may not cut it for some people, overtime is based on seniority as well.
