Pros

ACI is well positioned and widely recognized within its industry and is in possession of a good cash flow engine: the POS (Point of Sale) terminal network. Prior to 2008, ACI had had a good record of employee retention and was growing rapidly, albeit mostly by acquisition. The benefits package is comprehensive - not outstanding but at least competitive with what you'd find elsewhere. Most ACI products were well established and actually in use by real paying customers with real money on the line, which can be a real upside for those who tend to sell their souls to projects that never see the light of day.

Cons

Rapid expansion means there is no corporate culture to speak of. Once acquired, new divisions may be left to rot while senior management pursues its expansionist agenda. In the trenches, focus is on cost containment, not on achievement or excellence. Ironically, the bureaucratic policies which stifle innovation actually wind up making everything take longer and cost more. The twin polices of growth though acquisition and cost containment mean that career advancement opportunities are limited, unless you are an immigrant from India and favored to supervise all the development work that all got moved overseas. All these problems became even more exaggerated by the 2008 financial meltdown, of course.

Pros

Every second of every day, ACI Worldwide solutions are at work processing electronic payments for financial institutions, retailers and payment processors in over 80 countries. ACI differentiators include a 30-year track record of providing electronic payment solutions, an established global distribution channel and a specialized focus on high-volume, 7x24 software solutions. Solutions are provided for retail, back office, risk, and wholesale, and they are sold all over the world -- in over 80 countries. ACI has a strong history and amazing longevity for a technology company, and has survived recent pressures well, considering what is going on with its customer base.

Cons

Lower than average pay and benefits, bureaucratic management, a mentality that discourages innovative thinking, rewarding experience and longevity over argument and relevance. Communications do not flow, not from the top down and not from the bottom up. Strange for a company named Applied Communications, but maybe that explains the ever so effective grapevine. Morale is low as the company struggles with another reorganization and comes to grips with the realities of today's environment -- outsourcing, vendor partnership that disrupt old relationships, attracting and retaining IP in a company where longevity seems to be more important than effectiveness and those feeling threatened try to prevent change.
